Perfect northern light winter trip. Highlights of the South Waterfalls, glaciers, geothermal spring Geysir, hiking trip to Fimmvörðuháls valcanic erption, glacier lagoon, Skaftafell national park.
1st day
Pick-up at 8:45 at your guesthouse or hotel in Reykjavík. First stop is at Þingvellir national park, one of Iceland’s most significant historical sites because it was there that the nation’s first parliament was founded in the year 930 AD. From Þingvellir we head along mountain tracks toward the waterfall Gullfoss, which is something you will never forget and to some people it is one of the most magnificent waterfalls in Iceland. We also visit the Geysir geothermal area in Haukadalur valley, where you will experience the incredible power of spouting springs. From there we continue to our hotel near the village of Hvolsvöllur. Accommodation in private facilities.Dinner is a three-course meal.
2nd day
The day starts with breakfast at 8:30 and after that we tak a tour to Þórsmörk nature reserve which offers a unique composition of three glaciers, rocks and greenery, and not to mention the glacial rivers we have to cross in order to get there. We will then hike up the Fimmvörðuháls to see ( Eyjafjalla glacier ) volcanic eruption we will stop for a while to take in the atmosphere of being near this once in a lifetime experience, take a few photos . The Hiking involved should take about 6 -7 hour.
Pleace Note! The Hiking Is challenging and not suitable for children!
Overnight again at hotel near the village of Hvolsvöllur. Accommodation in private facilities. Dinner is a three-course meal.
3th day
Today we drive along the south coast to the national park of Skaftafell. On the way we will see Seljalandsfoss waterfall and Skogafoss waterfall, Skogafoss folk museum, and Reynisfjara beach with its interesting basaltic columns and puffin nesting during summer. From there we continue to our hotel near the village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. Accommodation in private facilities. Dinner: 3-course meal.
4th day
Skaftafell national park. Short hiking trip to the glacier tongue at Svínafellsjökull. From there we continue to Jökullsárlón glacial lagoon. During summer we can take a boat trip on the lagoon, but in winter we take a walk by the lagoon. In the afternoon we drive back to Reykjavík.
Things to take along on a trip like this would be:
Good hiking shoes, camera, bathing suit, towels, warm outdoor clothing, waterproof jacket and pants, lunch. Remember that Icelandic weather can change suddenly without prior warning.
Please note: Hotel, Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Please ask your tour guide for the provision of lunch as it may vary depending on the trip.
